L, you are my role model! After I finish out my current gig, I'm also planning to take my gap year(or 2) to figure my next "tour of duty". I too like the idea of finding the next thing that makes my career to date feel like a footnote. Maybe the next big thing for me will be hanging at my home in Bali, watching the moon rise.
